Unfortunately crisis breeds contempt and there are many illegitimate charites you will have to filter out. Charity Navigator will help you sort out the good from the bad. Even with long standing charities, it's important to know which ones provide the largest percentage of your donation to the charity. Surprisingly you will find many charities spend as much as 50% on administration whereas other (smaller) charities spend only 1% on administration. Thanks for anything you are doing.
