Excellent thread. Definitely front page material. We need more back story. How long has your kid been racing. What was his forst car/cart? Why the change? Staying in class? Moving up a class? very cool thread idea though. I'll resize your pics for you this weekend.

Thanks for resizing my pics. The kid started racing at 5 in Quarter midgets, only raced those for about a season and then he raced outlaw carts from age 12 to age 15. We moved him up to full body cars ( Street stock class) when he was 16, he is now 17. We will be staying in the same class this year, to get more seat time for him. He is a great driver, charges hard and uses his head. Has some pretty wild rides. The picture of the car with out tires on it , was a time when the rear end broke and bounced across the track with with the tires still attached. We are very proud of him. Good kid, no drinking ,drugs, good grades. Looking for sponsers, MOm and Dad goingg broke over this.LOL. Larry ( the other half of Grand Lake Blondie and known as Dad) has raced for 25 years and retired when the kid started in the full body cars, Larry fabricates the car as seen in the pictures of the cage being built, he is also the motor builder, the pit boss and the movie star. I on the other hand known as, Mom the she devil, supervise, the loading of the car,supplies, and the driver and the pit boss.

Wow, y'all are grooming him for Nascar. With the level of experience he has achieved at such an early age... I expect nothing less than pro by 20.

Don't really have the funds to support an Nascar ride, but it sure does keep him of the street and and out of trouble. Between him going to school , working part time and working on the car. He doesn't have time to do anything else. I don't know u Livin life, but don't get me worried about him in later years, I'm thinkin I have it made thru the teen years. LOL.

Where are you racing at and what class?

My racecar projects back when I was a young buck kept me out of trouble as well........for the most part. I also never had time for girls either but I sware every time I turned one down it made them try harder. And to this day its still racecars before girls! hmmmmmm.....Maybe thats why I'm divorced.

We are racing at the Old/New Thunderbird race track in Muskogee, Ok this year. We raced at Outlaw in Muskogee last year. Superstock is our class, but the way they change the names we could be called Street stock, Grand National, Hobby stock, or any other name they come up with, but for the time being it is Superstock.

He does have a girl friend, but she undrstands that the races and working on his car is considered a date nite.
We can't wait until its done either. Gonna be one awsome car,

Driving one of those carts was a primary fantasy of mine in my youth. Very cool.

it took him alittle while to talk me into it, I just didn't know about putting him in a 50 to 60 mph open cart. But as u see he did. Now the Grandson is wanting to do it, he's only 6, I think we will wait awhile on him. and the kid thought that he was the coolest kid around, especially since no other child at his school was driving one. I guess he has it in his blood, both grandfathers and his dad and uncle raced or is still racing, it was just destined to happen. I still sit in the pit stands and never take my eyes off of him when he's racing, could never tell u who finished in front or in back of him, I guess he will always be my baby boy. LOL

AHHHH...So did you run a Briggs Raptor engine? I raced 4-cycle open carts for awhile........ about 12 hp @ 8000 RPM on methanol......Sweeeet fun times.........about 12 dozen pairs of sprockets.....and little electric blankets on the tires........wow that was along time ago....Emmick chassis.

you are correct on the motor and the fuel except we ran a little nitro in ours, and no electric blankets. I actuallly think we had a better time at that those races than in the full body cars. and yess lots of spockets and chains, he actually put arod thru his first motor, I think his dad was really proud of him that day, must be a man thing. have pictures of it some where, we still have his last motor, anyone want a go fast cart motor.

Hell we had a Water Dyno and all......we could map the power curve and at what point of the track to richen the fuel up to cool the head down, dang I almost forgot all of that stuff......

walk down memory lane. sounds like u had a blast. We wasn't as high tech as u, but we had alot of fun. should have more pictures later this week.

That kart is the only thing I have ever raced...and then sold and made a profit.....ever!!!!! I should have never quit Karting......hindsite. But I ran pavement with mine not dirt.....ran dirt cars though.
